Ever since Mid September, Russia has been making continuous headlines on www.reuters.com by its actions against protestors arrested at Prirazlomnaya oil platform---owned by state-backed oil drilling company, Gazprom. Recently, they just released three Russian protestors on bail and the others were still remained behind bars. Why did these people protest though they would have predicted such an angry and uncompromising reaction from Russian govt? They were actually all from a environmental organization based in Netherland called Greenpeace. Russia’s drilling acts had engendered great concern among people for the possible environmental damages. Greenpeace protestors tried to stop them by attacking one of the platforms in its Arctic oil drilling field.

The dispute between Russia and the organization caused sensation on a large scale. Many countries disapproved Russian reactions against the protestors, which has resulted in crisis for itself worldwide.

However, the point is we need to stop scratching the surface and see through disputes to discover what warining lessons hide exactly behind. 

Nature we subsist on is actually comprised by several significant, like air, water and soil, and many tiny ecosystems which help balance the development and growth of lives in it. They do not exist independently immune of affects from the others, but correlate with one another intimately. One damaged, the rest will not remain intact either. 

Over years, oil exploration activities have brought large-scale pollution and contamination. Many types of waste are generated by oil drilling, production, stimulation, gas processing and accidental releases. Alll these hazard human life and wildlife.

Impact on Air:

Fast human development also brings along high demands for faster transportation. To meet these demands, petroleum activities are more intensified, bring about huge amount of pollution. Human burn coal, oil, crude, etc almost everyday at a very rapid speed. This is releasing carbon stored in the fuel into the atmosphere and upsetting the carbon cycle. When more carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere, it will lock more heat on the Earth’s surface, raising the global temperature. This phenomenon is called global warming. Statistics show that the global temperature has risen half a degree centigrade in the last century. If the trend is not curbed, by the year of 2100, the temp will increase another 1.4-5.8 celsius degrees, causing melting of glaciers and flooding of coastal cities.

Impact on Water:

Water pollution comes primarily from petroleum industries. The many causes of that include industrial emissions, oil spills, untreated waste water, substances discharged by vessels, substances carried to the sea by rivers and so on. All those exert severe damaging effects on water ecosystem. Not only will human not be able to drink wholesome and sanitary water, but also many marine animal species will perish since if the bottom dwelling organisms like planktons die, the rest food chain will be broken. 

Impact on Soil:

Soil pollution is mainly the consequence of poor waste management. Besides, accidental blowouts and spills destroy the natural forests. The soil has lost its fertility and will be no good fro trees, crops and vegetable for decades. Therefore, human will face threats of food shortage and green cover loss and wildlife extinction.

Even so, we have to admit we cannot do without petroleum penetrating into all aspects of our daily life. We use them to cook food, fuel the vehicles, to heat our homes, to make products like medicines and plastics and so on. However, every sword has two blades, when we are benefiting from petroleum, it is also producing hazards for us. We should all stand up together against the contamination while keeping our life going on by means of technological inventions, innovations and scientific advances. 

A Brief History of Drilling Fluid Solids Control

Anyone having a broad familiarity with oil & gas drilling knows that drilling fluid is quite indispensable in oil drilling. It is mainly used to help the drilling of boreholes. 

There are three main categories of drilling fluid: water-based drilling fluid, oil-based drilling fluid and gaseous drilling fluid. 

Drilling fluid is truly functional in drilling industry since it is able to remove cuttings from wells, suspend and release cuttings, control formation pressures, seal permeable formations, maintain wellbore stability, cool, lubricate and support the bit and drilling assembly, minimize formation damage, etc.

However, due to the precious materials used in drilling fluid, once it is deserted, it is fairly hard and expensive to produce and concoct another. What is more, drilling fluids is not automatically recyclable since solid phase, cuttings and gases will penetrate and change its performance from many aspects. For example, the active clay included in cuttings will exert greater negetive influence on its viscosity, thus causing difficulties in drilling and forming filter cake.

Many oilfields and companies injected water or other chemical fluids to dilute drilling fluid for maintaining certain density and visocity. Later, mud bits were discovered as more effective and less costly. They were required for holding an excess volume of drilling mud at the surface, which allows time for settling of the finer rock cuttings and for the release of entrained gas bubbles not mechanically separated. With the development of scientific technology and increase of mud treatment standards worldwide, nowadays mud rotary system also includes various solids control equipment such as shale shaker, hydraulic cones, centrifuges, degassers and so on.

This addition has largely improved the mud treating effects, reduced huge amount of cost on drilling fluids and borehole maintenance and kept drilling workers and environment from fatal damages. 

Shale Shaker is the first grade equipment for solids control system. It is quite useful for separation of solid phase above 75 μm in diameter. Then, it sends the mud into the next grade---desander for more delicate separation of solid phase between 45-74 μm in diameter. Treated mud will flow into desilter, the third grade equipment for further treatment where the 15-44 μm cuttings will be taken away. In the forth grade, low-speed and high-speed centrifuge respectively remove tiny particles like barites and infinitesmal substances that is 2-5 μm in diameter. If the drilling mud is entrained by gases, degasser can be installed between shale shaker and desander. 

After drilling mud goes through all the processes, they can be vey well recycled and re-applied in oil drilling.

During the visit, the Middle-Eastern client had a thourough inspection in KOSUN factory about its capability, technological prowess, R&D ability, sales team, after-sale services and so on. Through inspection and communication, the MIddle-Eastern client took a heavy interest in KOSUN and finally  decided to make KOSUN her company’s qualified supplier. 

This time, the Middle-Eastern client made the final decision of two sets of DC 355 Variable Frequency Centrifuge and talked about the basic technical details of the bulk centrifuges and system for next year.

       Hazards on natural environment

       Usually solid waste are directly discharged into every corner of the nature, so it has exerted huge negative influence on it which human subsist on.
       Air hazards. Solid waste emits large volumes of harmful substances and volatilizes a multitude of poisonous gases, thus decreaseing air quality. Immense tiny particles and powder float along wind in atmosphere and cause contamination. Buried organic solid waste decompose into carbon dioxide and methane which travels to atmosphere and exert pressure on air quality. 
       Soil hazards. The solid wastes discharged have crammed many acres of land. Buried underground, they emit harmful substances that penetrate into the soil. The soil attaches and accumulates the harmful components among soil solid phase. Consequently, they change the soil structure and components, endanger the vegetation and even infertilize the soil.
       Water hazards. Harmful substances such as waste discharged directly into rivers and oceans, stored in the open air and tiny particles floating in the air can enter into the surface water ecosystem and dissolve in water into harmful substance that poisons the organisms, leading to severe oxygen shortage in water, eutrophication, fish deaths and so on.

       Hazards on social environment. Discharged solid waste contributes to the chaotic phenomenon of stacked gabbage in city. It even happened that city image was seriously affected when all kinds of gabbage plastics were blown all over in the air by gust wind. Besides, the harmful substances floating in the air greatly decrease the city air quality. Everytime after you come back from an outing, you will find yourself overally covered with dust, upsetting your original good mood. Therefore, it is imminent to improve on city environment.

Its standards and regulations are generally used in all the countries for its progressiveness, versatility, security and the worldwide influence of American petroleum industry. Any oil equipment applied with APIOR marks is regarded both as having reliable quality and advanced technologies, and as a permit for domestic and foreign oil equipment markets.
　　    Each department subject to KOSUN worked with one another on the strict regulation of such processes as research&development, production, quality supervision, management system, sales, etc. in order to get API certification. At last, the API assessments were completed by the combined efforts of leadership and staff. Solidification’s Advantages and Disadvantages in Waste Management

        You may find solidification is applied worldwide as the last phase waste management choice in the waste management flow chart. However, it is not perfect since this technology is limited in countries not strict with environmental requirements. Therefore, it has not yet won wide recognition nowadays when environmental problems are relatively sharp. 
      Solidification(including sealing, concretion, stabilization) describes the process to reduce the free water in cuttings and potential pollutant emission with the help of additives. It is called a process because solidifying materials are still underdeveloped. In the past, it is usually applied before burial or paving with solidifying materials. I can also be used in production of recyclable materials like bricks or air bricks. Nevertheless, its best outlook is in the production of road base materials(mud paved under road). 
        Usually, fly ash and mud are used for cutting solidification. Many solids control products in the market claim good quality, but it still remains unproved whether it has any credibility. The problem for solidification is there is no technological process or quality control process available. Some believe casing flocculant into cuttings is one kind of solidification. However, not many advantages can be found except reduction of free water with it as a kind of dilution.

       First of all, all the materials applied for solidification should go through leaching test. And the portion cased into cuttings should weigh the same with that in leaching test. However, it is not easy to realize since casing continuation varies. Second, the goal is that solidified materials should resemble raw materials. If brick is needed, then quality bricks should be produced; if paving materials are needed, then the materials should pass road grade test.

       When there is no local solidification and burial standards available, 29B can be referred to since it assumes the materials are solidified and buried. The standard minimized compressive strength required for tested hollow brick is 20P. After the brick is crushed, sampled fragments will be immersed into water to test its oil and salt leashing. It is regulated that oil and chloride  precipitates quantity be less than 10mg/L and 500mg/L. Other test methods are also available except this. It should be noted that almost all the solidifications will have no economic value when the products meet the standards.   

       In a word, solidification should be considered carefully for waste treatment.

On 29^th October, two clients from a subsidiary of PEMEX came to visit our factories in Xi’an. After viewing the several production lines in Xi’an Jingwei Solid Control Equipment Factory and Xi’an Yongle Solid Control System Factory, the clients were very satisfied with KOSUN’s capabilities in manufacturing oil drilling solid control equipments, as well as the good quality and excellent workmanship of the equipment.

In fact, these clients has been in contact with KOSUN since June of 2013, and sent an inquiry for 2 sets of solid control system in August. After keeping contact through phone and email for several months, the clients decided to come to visit KOSUN’s factories and also wanted to make the final decision of the 2 sets of solid control system. Because of our good quality products and superior service, the clients reached a cooperation agreement with KOSUN and signed a cooperation memorandum with our International Business Director Mr. Toby on 30^th. What’s more, the clients promise to help KOSUN to promote its solid control equipment in Mexican market, and also show their expectation to be the exclusive agent of KOSUN in Mexico. For future cooperation, the Mexican clients suggest KOSUN go to visit their workshop in Mexico and build a joint company with them in the local market.

The clients have left Xi’an on 31^st, and said they are very satisfied with this visit. Though we still need to wait for the final decision of the 2 sets of solid control system, but the recognition of the clients means our equipment can be well accepted in South American Market.

On October 15th , the 114th Canton Fair which is also known as China Import and Export Fair was opened in China Import and Export Fair Complex located in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. Having attracted 24,517 enterprises worldwide, it has set up a total of 59,539 booths for this autumn session, eight more than the spring session.
These years have witnessed increasingly rapid economic development in China and much cemented relationship with its neighboring countries as well as the top economies.
