China Begins to Seriously Fight Pollution

Biological drilling waste treatment describes degradation and mineralization of pollutants in drilling waste by bacteria growth, reproduction and internal respiration introduction of degrading bacteria and nutrients with the introduction of degrading bacteria and nutrients. Minimized temperature is 15 degrees centigrade and the best is 30 degrees centigrade in drilling fluids treatment. Besides, for field operation of waste management, heating and insulation measures are needed for Winter and Spring and heating and cooling for Summer and Autumn. Hydraulic detention time defines how long treated wastewater stays in bioreactor. Organic pollutants in waste drilling fluids are, to a great extent, synthetic organic macromolecules which has a larger degradation rate than the other organic pollutants in wastewater, so the chosen bacteria should have better sludge loading ability. Above all, PH value and oxygen content of drilling fluids are also important factors and basic conditions for microorganisms to survive in drilling waste.
At present, the international waste treatment primarily adopts such approaches as land cultivation method, composting method, bioreactor, microbial flocculants method, anaerobic bio-treatment method, aerobic bio-treatment method, natural treatment method(oxidation pond).
Land cultivation method means to thoroughly degrade pollutants contained in drilling waste resorting to re-cultivation. It is very popular in many US and Russia drilling waste treatment sites, but it takes ages and costs a lot and is very easily affected by environment. Compositing method mainly degrades organisms by diluting drilling waste and then adding nutrients and sawdusts to attract microorganisms, which however truly is time-consuming. Bioreactor is both costly and energy-consuming since diluted and blended drilling waste and nutrient solution are put into certain tuner for adjustment of the survival factors for microorganism in order to achieve biodegradation. Microbial flocculants method makes good use of the principles of organic flocculants to solidify drilling fluids and degrade during the process. Our sights are veiled by heavy smog. At the early beginning of this year, smoggy weather hit a wide range of China. January saw 5 heavily smoggy days in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province and only 4 sunny days. Beijing,thus, is now the new “Smoggy City” to Chinese people. While on March, 3.3 smoggy days can be counted, 1.1 more days than the average in the same period of past years, hitting the record-high of these 52 years. Suddenly, everyone panicked, at the threats caused by smoggy weather. And in many cities, the masks and eyedrops were sold out. Statistics said over 80 millions people were seriously affected this year, especially citizens from the most populated regions like, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei Province, Pearl River Delta, Yangtse River Delta. People there seem to live in an unprecedented air pollution.

It is truly impressive to see all the faces wearing masks on the streets. It is even more impressive to discover countless cancer villages scattered across the land. In Duying Village, Shenqiu County, Henan Province, an eight-person family was all diagnosed as having fatal cancers, fishes in river deformed by pollution and an annual 2000 deaths of cancers reported. The tombs established upon lives and tears really struck the eyes and roused the minds.

In retrospect, we would find ourselves vexed by frequent headlined reports of extreme environmental pollution and accidents and touched to drop tears secretly by the tragedies resulted from pollution.

However, the dropped tears are not able to wash away the heavy dirt. We paid very heavy price for the mistakes made in the past, but we should try to avoid that in the future. Economic development is important, sustainable development is even more important. Our “Chinese Dream” needs to be an “Ecological Dream”.

KOSUN Jingwei Solids Control Equipment Factory Completely Upgraded and Retrofitted



READ: From 15 June to 24 July in 2013, KOSUN invested a great sum of funds into the complete upgrading and retrofitting of Jingwei Solids Control Equipment Factory Block in order to further its sophisticated management, to increase its corporate benefits, to strengthen its core competition and to build up KOSUN’ s international brand.

This transforming move mainly included the betterment of workshops, staff dormitories, staff canteen and environment of the whole factory block. Now, the newly transformed workshop, the neater working environment and the complete meticulous management have been very much praised and recognized among all the staff in company.

Only when “strictness, meticulousness, honesty, perseverance” are well carried out, can the upgrading on sophisticated management be facilitated. Only when much importance is attached on details, can the management become effective. Only when all the details and sectors are carefully transformed, can the managerial benefits be maximized. Based on these three points, this retrofitting move should start from the tiny details. Now, the newly transformed factory block has taken on a new appearance, which is well-ordered and methodical. All the garbage is collected and managed segregatedly and all the safety signs posted. Inside the workshops, all the processed parts are put on the new wooden pallets sitting beside the lathes, and moreover a over-one-meter-high white drawing frame is installed next to each lath so that it will be more convenient for workers to read the drawing sheets.

At the same time, the staff dorms were also retrofitted. New bedside table, storage box and chairs are added. Considering the difficulty the worker met while washing the clothes, some washing machines are also installed. Generally speaking, everything is displayed tidily and floor swept cleanly in the transformed dorms.

What is more, staff’s board was improved, too. A list of meals is posted on the bulletin of the factory canteen, offering details of the foods provided to the workers from Mondays to Fridays. The canteen crew says to us that they will change the list every week, make sure there is meat in every meal and there are a lot of varieties. At present, though it has already early autumn, the leadership in factory still personally instructs support staff to send cooked green bean soup to workshops so that workers’ fitness is guaranteed and sunstroke prevention well done.

KOSUN ZJ40DB Polar Rig Low-temperature Solids Control System Successfully Sent to Russia


On Oct 17th ,the ship loaded with KOSUN ZJ40DB Polar Rig Low-temperature Solids Control System left the harbour for Russia. The system will couple DS250 Mobile Orbit Rig produced by Italian WEI Company. The deal on KOSUN ZJ40DB Polar Rig Low-temperature Solids Control System is the second made with KOSUN after this Russian customer purchased its solids control system in 2007.

KOSUN has finished with all the production and assembly of equipment in early August since they settled the order and has passed the inspection from customers at the end of August.
On Oct 10th , the Logistics and Document Department took a rapid move to organize and communicate with delivery crew on loading equipment on truck after they received delivery notice. By Oct 13th , all the equipment was assembled and ready for delivery to harbour on Oct 15th . KOSUNs rapid and safe assembly won high commendation from Russian customers.
ZJ40DB Polar Rig Low-temperature Solids Control System contains 5 mud tanks, one water tank, two diesel tanks and one MCC system. It can perform group drilling in 10 wells. NO.1 tank is set on rails with its end connected to oil cylinder which pulls NO.1 tank along the rails across wells every 5 meters for 50 meters. Besides, connecting pipes are also added between NO.1 and No.2 tank when the former travels in order to ensure the safety of system. No.1 tank features in host materials welded by Q345D low alloy steel so that it has large strength and resists low temperature well. 
What is more, this set of system is also coupled with polar heating system to include the whole system, its relative cable tanks and exposed steam pipelines under thermo shelf as drilling processes since Russia Siberia Luktoil Oilfield Block is located in polar region. It is also matched with polar steam heating system putting 2 steaming warmers atop each tank to collaborate with heating system to ensure a normal operation of the system under the terrible polar -45℃ condition in regions like Russia Siberia.
The takeover between KOSUN and Russias second largest drilling company--Luktoil Oil Corp. of ZJ40DB Polar Rig Low-temperature Solids Control System continued the success of the deal with Gazprom on solids control system and its successful completion and delivery. Meanwhile, the two companies have appointed KOSUN as the only solids control equipment supplier in China. This means KOSUNs business in Russian market has  already entered the mature phase.

Techniques on Drilling Sewage Treatment


        For offshore drillings, one of the biggest drilling waste is sewage which grows out of drilling fluids, rain, water used to wash bits and cooling water. Usually, the under-treated sewage weighs 30 times the well-bore volume. Therefore, sewage minimization is a very vital part in the whole waste treatment. 
        However, as the the easiest waste resource to be reduced, water can be reduced in such ways as below:
        One-way cooling system can save water and seal it inside the system while eliminating cooling water, braking water and sealing water to achieve water recycling. It is proven that it is not pricey to recycle the water and is able to save a large amount of liquids.
        The reason that rain can be recycled is the correlation between drilling fluids and water. Rain is applicable in washing drilling equipment. The water used to wash drilling equipment can flow into water tank just like rain and should be recycled till it cannot function any more. It will be surprising to see how many times they can be reused. 
        The dirtiest water(such as, deserted drilling fluids) can be applied to wash the panel. Desander and filter can produce massive deserted drilling fluids( usually there is one portion of solid phase in 2 or 3 portions of fluid phase). They can be used to wash drilling mud tank. And shale shaker and decanter centrifuge also need washing water. Water used to clean panel do not need purifying since it is not necessary to wash away solid phase and liquid phase with clean water. It will be very difficult to separate them during treatment procedure.
         It is necessary to produce sewage. It is quite expensive to treat sewage, so vacuum device is preferable to washing water here. A gun-shaped controller with tube is a good idea. The tube falls and automatically closes the connection to disconnect the controller. Drilling operators prefer high-pressure, small-volume washer due to the less labor intensity, better washing effects and reduced sewage volume. Generally speaking, both the vacuum device and washer are put into use when treatment is not costly. However, the gun-shaped controller will offset the cost.
       Different approached can be conducted to separate and treat waste, for instance, water-based waste and oil-based waste can not blend until being managed together. During the operation, fluid from drilling mud pits should be reinjected so as to flow into spare drilling mud pits.

Realization of a “GREEN” Dream?


    On August 29th, CNN published a coverage about the famous Car City---Houston, Texas, US, which read, “Houston may be a city built on the profits of oil and gas, but it has a green dream. 
The dream is to create a city that is "more liveable, walkable and bikeable," according Laura Spanjian, the director of sustainability for Houston since 2010, when current Mayor Annise Parker was elected.
For many years, Houston has been known as a hub producing large quantities of oil and gas. However, intensive drilling activities brought not only huge financial benefits, but also worrying environmental problems. 
As far as we all know, petroleum products help us do many things. We use them to fuel our airplanes, cars, and trucks, to heat our homes, and to make products like medicines and plastics. Though the life is made much easier, finding, producing, moving and using them can cause problems for our environment like air and water pollution. Many types of wastes are also generated by activities like drilling, production and accidental releases. All of these hazard human health and wildlife.
Therefore, laws and regulations have been enforced by governments to help reduce the hazards and new technologies developed to help improve.
